HSM 210 Discussion A Human Service Worker At A Homeless Shelter For Women And Their Children

When dealing with scenario 1, I would take a humanist approach to dealing with assisting homeless women and their children.  My clients would benefit from this approach because they would be able to learn to self actualize and discover ways in which to become self sufficient.

Merely providing a person with the means for survival does not ensure that they will be able to provide for themselves in the future.

There is a great failure at work in social policies with regard to homelessness.  (NASW, 2009)  The social policies that are in place are inadequate and the services that are provided are limited in nature.  A longer term of social retraining and skills training is needed to more efficiently combat the homeless problem.  It would be my intention to change policies to reflect this form of program change.
