What is this speech’s audience? The audience for this speech is those individuals seeking to become environmentally friendly with their home and lifestyle. There is a large growing number of people who would like to be more ecofriendly and but do not understand the many different practices which are necessary for this transition. There are also many people who do not know anything about being ecofriendly.  For these reasons my target audience is those individuals who are seeking to become ecofriendly and those individuals who are ignorant of what going green is all about.

What is this speech’s specific purpose? The purpose of this speech is to inform individuals about how to become ecofriendly.

In choosing a specific purpose, how may you narrow the topic so it is appropriate to this audience?

I believe that by discussing how to become ecofriendly the topic is sufficiently narrow as it will also contain the benefits of the methods and practices for becoming green.

Demographic Audience Analysis:  What special adaptation is necessary in the speech?

Age    Age is not a large consideration because being green is practiced by many different age groups. Older generation audience members may not be as receptive unless there is a benefit attached to the green practices.

Gender __________None________________________________________________________________

Sexual orientation ________________none_________________________________________________

Religion ___________none______________________________________________________________

Racial, ethnic, and cultural background ________none________________________________________

Group membership Depending on the political affiliation of the audience members this may present issues with the audience being receptive. For example, Republican audience members may not be as receptive to ecofriendly practices since they seem to oppose these practices in legislation.

Other (specify) ___________________none________________________________________________

Situational Audience Analysis: What special adaptation is necessary in the speech?

Size The audience size is small less than 30 people so there is no major changes that need to be performed.

Response to physical setting An academic setting illicit a more formal atmosphere and the speech should take this factor into account.

Knowledge about topic The class should be familiar with Eco friendliness as a topic which means that it should be presented in a unique manner in order to maintain the attention of the audience. Having studied this topic in the past may bias some individuals which means I will need to present the information in the most accurate way possible.

Interest level in topic neutral to high interest considering the group is academic attitude toward the topic

Attitude toward topic ___nuetral ________________________________________________________

Disposition toward speaker The audience will be supportive because it is an academic environment composed of my peers.

Disposition toward occasion    I am comfortable with the speech as it is something that I believe in and interested in pursuing.

What devices will you use in the introduction to gain audience attention?

I plan to use an interesting fact in order to open the speech and gain the audience’s attention. This will be the form of a startling fact.

What steps will you take to relate the topic to this audience?

Because the audience is comprised of many different diverse groups, I will draw on many different aspects of life such as economics, lifestyle, and other ideas that most people can relate with.

What are the speech’s main points? Why did you develop these particular points?

The main points of this speech are 1-how to go green, 2-the benefits of going green, and a listing of several easy methods of implementing green practices. I chose these main points for this audience because they have wide appeal for many different people.

What decisions will you make in choosing supporting materials?

I used readily understood materials such as visual aids that are easy to understand and show how going green can be beneficial and easy.

What steps will you take to make language clear and appropriate to this audience?

I have chosen language which is easy to understand by making sure that it is not filled with jargon or technical language.

What adjustments will you make in delivery—rate of speech, volume, tone of voice, gestures, and the like—to communicate your ideas?

The largest adjustment I am making to the speech is with tone. I am trying to sound less monotone and be livelier in my delivery. I also need to use gestures such as pointing at visual aids in order to seem less robotic and maintain the interest of the audience.
