COM 295 Discussion
The audience centered approach to communication is the method of analyzing an audience to determine the appropriate content, language, and usage, expectations of the listeners. This is also commonly known as “know your audience”. Knowing the intended audience allows the message being communicated to be more personalized or more intended to provoke the interest of the listener. This in turn channels the purpose and the content into specific directions. For instance, if one is writing a “How To” manual then he or she would want to write with the idea that the audience is someone who does not know how to do whatever the book is teaching. Therefore, the purpose and content would be focused in a manner in which it was easy to understand. By being audience centered, the message is tailored to fit the intended audience and there is less chance of message being miscommunicated.
